Bellwether is the Coonawarra winery of Sue Bell, a deep-thinking winemaker and respected wine show judge. Her wines have won many medals and trophies, she was named Winemaker of the Year by the Australian Society of Viticulture and Oenology in 2014, and she was named South Australian Woman of the Year in 2024.
Sue selects climate-appropriate varieties: she loves the Coonawarra and Wrattonbully classics but also works with emerging Mediterranean varieties, and fragrance, texture and lower alcohol are features of all her wines.
Bellwether is based in the Glen Roy Shearing Shed, built in 1868 and used for shearing until 2009, now restored as a boutique winery with a produce garden, kitchen and campground with bell tents. Its cellar door has been listed among Coonawarra's best by Gourmet Traveller Wine every year since opening.
