Holm Oak

Holm Oak is a labour of love for winemaker Bec Duffy and her husband Tim, a viticulturist, who since 2006 have made cool-climate wines in Tasmania's Tamar Valley. Bec grew up on King Island, where her father planted a trial plot of vines when she was 14, and has more than 20 years of winemaking experience. Tim is a third-generation grape grower and agronomist from Nyah, near Swan Hill in Victoria.

The estate vineyards at Rowella have an unusual history: in the 1930s the Alexander Patent Racquet Company chose the site to grow holm oak trees for tennis racquets. Pruning and harvesting are done by hand, irrigation is used sparingly, and some older vines grow on rainfall alone.

The Duffys are creative winemakers who like to push boundaries while staying true to Tasmania's reputation, making sparkling, white and red wines. Holm Oak is a member of Sustainable Winegrowing Australia and working towards certification.
