Mac Forbes

Mac Forbes started his Yarra Valley winery in 2004 with a clear aim: to better understand and connect with the place he grew up. His wines are known for exploring the differences between the valley's sub-regions and individual vineyards, with each bottle presented as a snapshot of that evolving understanding.

The winery works with sites across the Yarra Valley, particularly in the cool Upper Yarra. They include the Ferguson Vineyard at Woori Yallock, on grey loamy clay over siltstone, which gives structured Pinot Noir and Chardonnay built for ageing; the Spear Gully Vineyard at Hoddles Creek, its only site on deep volcanic red soils, giving more open wines with great purity; and the Little Yarra Vineyard at Gladysdale, one of the coolest areas in the valley.

Mac Forbes is interested in developing farming approaches suited to Australian conditions, including learning from the Wurundjeri people, who have lived on and cared for the region for more than 50,000 years. The range is led by Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, with Riesling and other varieties.
