Montvalley is a family vineyard beneath the Brokenback Range at Mount View in the Hunter Valley. Its story began in January 1998, when John and Deirdre Colvin, after almost a decade of searching, bought 150 acres of untouched land on Mitchells Road, confirmed by soil analysis as an ideal site.
In 2002 the first Semillon was bottled, the family began building its home on the property, and Chris Hunt became vineyard manager, a role he has held for more than two decades. Shiraz followed in 2003, Chardonnay in 2005 and a rosé from estate Shiraz in 2006. In 2004 John built an 18-hole par-three golf course among the vines, opened with the first Montvalley Golf Classic in 2005.
In 2022 Montvalley refreshed its brand while keeping its commitment to quality.
