Ossa Wines began in 2017 when Rod and Cecile Roberts bought a 600-hectare farm near Swansea on Tasmania's East Coast. Both grew up on multigenerational family farms, Rod in north-west Tasmania and Cecile in Switzerland, and they see themselves as custodians who want to leave the land healthier.
They planted 20 hectares of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Shiraz, Grüner Veltliner, Pinot Gris, Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc. Winemaker Liam McElhinney, from Marlborough, came to Tasmania in 2019 after working in France, Canada and the USA.
The first Ossa wines were released in 2022, including a vintage sparkling aged more than five years on lees.
