Petersons is a Hunter Valley family winery established in 1971 by Colin Peterson and his parents Ian and Shirley. The story began when the family bought an old dairy farm at Mount View and planted 10 acres of Semillon to supply a nearby winery. As the vines flourished they added Chardonnay, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir, and the first Petersons vintage came in 1981.
Since then the family has made multi-award-winning boutique wines and expanded beyond the Hunter, establishing Petersons of Mudgee, including Glenesk Estate, in 1996 and vineyards at Armidale in the New England region, first harvested in 2002.
The hilltop cellar door at Mount View, the family's home and headquarters for more than 45 years, has views of Mount Sugarloaf. There is also a cellar door on Broke Road in Pokolbin, and in Armidale a restored horse stable hosts weekend barbecue lunches.
