Rochford Wines was started by owner and CEO Helmut Konecsny in the Macedon Ranges in the late 1990s. In 2002 he moved the business to the Yarra Valley after buying a well-established 13-hectare vineyard on Hill Road at Coldstream, with vines planted in 1992, and developed it into one of the valley's best-known destinations.
The winery makes estate-grown and single-vineyard Yarra Valley wines, especially Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Its approach in the vineyard and cellar relies on the senses and on intuition as much as experience, walking the rows and tasting the fruit to judge each block.
Rochford is also famous for hospitality: restaurants, cellar door experiences and event spaces sit across the estate, and it is a major outdoor concert venue in the Yarra Valley, hosting tours such as Red Hot Summer, just beyond Melbourne.
