Scarborough Wine Co is a family winery on Gillards Road, Pokolbin, in the Hunter Valley. Ian and Merralea Scarborough started the business in 1987, with a dream that began in the 1970s, and bought the Gillards Road property at the end of that decade. Ian ('Scarbie') was convinced the site was right for Chardonnay, removing the Shiraz planted there to focus on it, a choice that proved inspired.
The following decade brought the ubiquitous Yellow Label Chardonnay and steady growth, and the garage where the wine was made gave way to a cellar door. The next generation, Sally and Jerome Scarborough, along with Liz Riley, now carry on the family's vision, and Scarborough is one of the leading names in Hunter Valley wine.
The cellar door is open seven days, and bookings are recommended.
