Usher Tinkler Wines was founded in 2015 by Usher Tinkler, a third-generation Hunter Valley vigneron whose family has farmed there for more than 100 years. Usher grew up among vineyards planted by his grandparents, graduated in wine science from Charles Sturt University and worked vintages around the world, including five in Burgundy.
The philosophy is simple: make wine only from the vines the family grows. These include old vines planted by Lindemans in 1948 and 1965, among them Shiraz, and old Chardonnay planted by Usher's father in 1978. The family farms with its own sustainable methods, including organic sprays, and is working towards Australian sustainability certification.
The cellar door is in a renovated church on McDonalds Road, Pokolbin, pairing the wines with salumi and cheese.
