Riverina

A large irrigated region around Griffith, one of Australia's biggest grape-growing areas.

History

The Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area was established in the early 1900s, and Italian immigrant families became the backbone of the region. Producers such as McWilliam's, De Bortoli and Casella grew into major Australian wineries.

De Bortoli's Noble One, first made in 1982, showed the region could make world-class sweet wine.
